Livelihood Generation and Menstrual Hygiene go Hand in Hand Capacity Augmentation of Reusable Sanitary Pad Manufacturing Unit, Arunachal Pradesh.
It has become impossible for the women who stay in the North East’s far-flung villages to earn their living as their connectivity with the mainstream is reduced due to the lockdown.
Changlang is one such town located in the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh. Nightingale Federation is an SHG of 10 women, which runs a Re-useable Sanitary Napkin Production Unit. These women travel from nearby villages every day to the unit for work. SHG is creating employment opportunities for women, enhancing the menstrual hygiene of females, and protecting the environment from the harmful waste of plastic sanitary pads.
Samarpann has undertaken capacity augmentation of the unit by providing Sewing Machines, various stitching tools like button fixing the machine, scissors, thread cutter, measuring tapes, etc. We have also provided them the raw material for making Reusable Sanitary Pads.
This will help in doubling the unit’s production capacity, leading to increased revenue generation for the women and bringing back livelihood security to these families. The unit with increased capacity is expected to give a monthly earning of Rs 8000-10,000 per woman.
Samarpann is also working in collaboration with the District Administration, Changlang, to ensure a market for the product in the villages, schools, community centers, and district hospitals.
We are also buying sanitary pads from them and distributing them to the poor women in Arunachal, ensuring their menstrual hygiene.
Your contribution will help ensure increased earnings for the women in the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) which in turn ensures livelihood security to their families in remotest parts of India.
