In rural and tribal India, over 23 million girls drop out of school annually due to a lack of menstrual hygiene solutions. According to a report by NFHS, only 58% of women in India have access to safe menstrual products. Unnati, a 14-year-old from Panna, Madhya Pradesh, often missed school during her period. Like many girls in her community, she used low-cost, plastic-based pads that caused irritation and discomfort, or old cloths that led to leaks and embarrassment.
When Samarpann introduced its Menstrual Hygiene Management Program, Unnati received reusable cloth pads and period panties, which allowed her to attend school without fear. Awareness campaigns also educated her family about menstrual health, breaking taboos and empowering them to make healthier choices.
Today, Unnati no longer misses school. She is focused on her studies, dreaming of becoming a teacher. Samarpann’s initiative has given her the dignity, confidence, and opportunity to continue her education without interruptions.
Samarpann’s Menstrual Hygiene Management Program has reached over 10,000 girls in Panna (Madhya Pradesh) and Kota (Rajasthan), distributing 30,000 reusable cloth pads and 10,000 period panties.
Help us as spread the message of safe menstrual hygiene and encourage girls to use bio-degradable sanitary napkins.
